Colegate / Flats

On May 6th 2008, Assist started using new facilities at 22 - 24 Colegate in Norwich. This 3-storey building, owned by Norwich City Council, is used to host activities similar to those carried out at Lazar House and Heath Gardens on the ground floor and as flats for members seeking greater independence (1st and 2nd floors).

The ground floor at Colegate offers ample space to carry out a wide variety of activities to support people towards independence and is ideally located to allow easy access into the City. The 1st and 2nd floors had in a previous life been designed to be used as self contained flats - 2 singles and 2 doubles and with considerable work and expense, they were renovated to provide accomodation for the members of Assist. They are now officially referred to as 1 - 4 Friars Quay, Norwich.

Many individuals are itching to try out independent living but either do not have suitable opportunities available or find the pressure of moving away from secure family or residential homes too stressful to contemplate. Members can try out the Friars Quay flats without any such pressures, in their own time, as occupants move on and places become available.

In October 2010, Assist moved into spacious new headquarters at 20 Colegate in Norwich, next door to the facilities described above. The Trust jumped at the chance to take on the building as it provided the space needed to accomodate the growing numbers attending while offering the chance to consolidate its admin functions at the same time.

The layout and location of 20 Colegate has proved ideal for the members. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and all the facilities the City has to offer are literally on the doorstep.
